Sergio will work on solutions to the real issues facing Wyoming schools!

School Safety

Every child deserves a great education, and every parent deserves to see their child getting off the bus after a safe day in the classroom.

Sergio will work to assure that Wyoming school buildings are secure, more police officers are on site, and statewide standards for drills are implemented and funded.

Equitably and fully fund our schools

Wyoming’s Constitution is clear. Wyoming schools must be fully and equitably funded. Sadly, our Legislature has failed to address this issue and now the state finds itself being sued.

Sergio will work with all the parties involved to resolve this issue.

Every Wyoming child deserves an excellent education regardless of their family situation or the zip code where they live.

Support our educators

A recent survey by the University of Wyoming and the Wyoming Education Association indicates that 65% of Wyoming teachers would like to leave the profession.

Sergio has nearly 30 years of classroom experience. The WDE should be making the lives of teachers easier, not harder. The department should be supporting educators on the ground with good resources, assessments that make sense, and advocating for our professional educators.

Public funds are for public schools

Our public schools are great institutions of learning, and they are also the fabric that holds our communities together providing sports programming, access to the arts and music, meeting space and so much more.

On Friday nights in Wyoming families aren’t at the local private school or charter school. They are at their local public school, supporting the home team!

Sergio is a full-throated public school advocate!

Early childhood education for every child

The data is clear. Children who receive high-quality early education before five years of age enjoy many mid-range and long-range benefits. They are less likely to repeat a grade or be identified as having special needs. They are more likely to perform better in later grades, graduate from high school, and achieve higher incomes.

Sergio will work to provide greater access to high-quality early childhood education for every Wyoming child.

Local control, local input

It takes a community to raise and educate a child. Wyoming’s parents and families must be involved with their children’s education. Not just providing feedback, but stepping up and assuring that our kids are in school, fed, and on time. They must read to and with their children.

The Legislature provides the funds and determines standards. The WDE, provides resources and tools. The local community through their elected school board determines curriculum and policy.
